Between December and February, heavy snowfall regularly blankets the Gulmarg road. The section from Tangmarg upward becomes accessible only to 4WD vehicles equipped with snow chains. Here is what most tourists find out the hard way and what we handle for you automatically.
During heavy snowfall, the J&K Traffic Police stop all private small cars at Tangmarg approximately 13 km before Gulmarg. Sedans, hatchbacks and 2WD vehicles are turned back.
